The Problem
In Fall 2025, The Box is Alive was headed to Kickstarter with little more than a rough draft of its campaign. But Ludocratic Games, the studio behind The Box, needed more than a proofreader.
They needed bullet points transformed into compelling copy, bland descriptions infused with the game's wacky personality, market research on successful indie campaigns, and a video script for their work-in-progress Kickstarter trailer.
Their launch date? Less than a month away.
No big deal.
Kickstarter Research & Copyediting
From First Draft to Fund Worthy
Ludocratic Games knew what they wanted to say about their project—they just needed help selling it. After researching successful indie game Kickstarters, I identified messaging and visuals that built trust.
I recommended gameplay-first imagery, a development roadmap, and a playable demo to build trust with potential backers. I then rewrote and reorganized the campaign to highlight the game's quirky premise, unique mechanics, rewards, and funding goals.
The result was a polished, audience-focused page designed to turn curious visitors into excited backers.

Kickstarter Trailer Script
Written for the Cut
In between their campaign copy and website revamp, I wrote the on-screen text for The Box is Alive's Kickstarter trailer.
After meeting with the team, I distilled the game's story and mechanics into supers that balanced action keywords with a silly, upbeat tone (and a lot of puns). I collaborated with the project's video producer to time and place the copy as I wrote it, allowing us to refine the script alongside the edit.
The final Kickstarter trailer clearly communicated the game's hook, boosting it's playful sense of adventure, and directing viewers to support The Box is Alive on Kickstarter.
Continued Community Updates
Behind the Box
The Box is Alive was fully funded, but the journey was just beginning. Production was in full swing and Ludocratic Games needed to keep their backers in the loop.
I took over writing and publishing ongoing Kickstarter updates, collaborating with the art and development teams to gather progress, screenshots, and promotional assets for these post.
By turning dev logs and game updates into engaging posts, I help maintain backer excitement, strengthen studio credibility, and provide a transparent look behind the scenes.
The Results
All that research and writing paid off. The Box is Alive's Kickstarter converted 140 visitors into backers, ultimately raising $8,053—322.12% of its original $2,500 funding goal.
As Ludocratic Games continues development, ongoing Kickstarter updates have kept backers informed, maintained transparency, and strengthened the studio's relationship with its community long after the campaign ended.
